Da Vinci Code, par Dan Brown

Quelques années après l'événement, je me suis dit qu'il fallait tout de même que je lise ce livre. J'avais déjà vu le film. C'est peut-être pour cette raison que je n'ai pas vraiment accroché, je me souvenais de la trame dans les grandes lignes. Mais je n'ai pas trouvé le livre si extraordinaire, l'histoire ou l'intrigue si prenante. Les personnages n'ont pas vraiment de profondeur et je n'ai pas accroché sur les dialogues. J'ai juste aimé l'avant-dernière scène, autour de la petite chapelle Écossaise. Ceci dit, c'était sympa à lire et agréable de ne pas être trop prise par la lecture pour en oublier de dormir ;-)

Autrement une citation qui m'a beaucoup plu, que Dan Brown fait dire par un évêque:

Quels liens pouvait-il y avoir entre la science et la foi ? On ne pouvait exercer la première avec objectivité si l'on était croyant. Et la seconde n'avait pas besoin d'une confirmation scientifique de ses croyances.

The Gathering Storm, by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson

I know I know the illustration is horrible ! I really really wonder why they keep choosing the cheesy graphics. Sorry for the artist, but I just can't stand them. Luckily I bought the hard cover book by mistake on Amazon and the illustration is just on the jacket ! So when I took the book with me during my train trip and on the bus, I had a very smooth book with me. By the way, I am used to reading this series in the cheap edition (pocket edition) but the hard cover book is really nice ! I love the feel of the pages, how thick the book is, and yet so light ! Perfect.

On with the story. I have re-read all 11 books I had from the series before buying "The Knife of Dreams", the last book entirely written by Robert Jordan before his death. While the beginning of the series is great, books 9 and 10 are exceedingly slow and boring. Number 11, that I read a couple of months ago, gets back on track.




All 11 books are in the picture below (the first one is a prequel I think .. I haven't read it yet anyway).


Then Robert Jordan died. Luckily for all the fans, Brandon Sanderson, fantasy author and WOT fan, was able to take on the job to write the end of the series, based on notes from Robert Jordan, sometimes even entire chapters already written down. There are still two more books to be published, but "The Gathering Storm" was really really good.

So many things happening, and a great end. I am already re-reading "The Knife of Dreams" (slowly this time) and will re-read "The Gathering Storm" after that. I just love being in the universe Robert Jordan created. Like many fans, I feel as if the main characters of the series were old friends.

Looking forward to the two last books !

Après 2 ans sans billets sur mon blog, un retour à la bibliothèque me pousse à écrire à propos de ma dernière lecture.

La bibliothèque à laquelle j'ai accès en ce moment a un choix assez restreint. J'ai fini par choisir ce livre parce que je reconnaissais le nom de l'auteur (sans pour autant le situer) et parce que l'illustration m'intriguait).

J'ai beaucoup aimé la façon dont on entre petit à petit dans l'histoire. Le personnage principal, dont on ne sait encore rien, découvre un pendu. En découle l'histoire (qui n'a pas forcément beaucoup à voir avec le pendu en question). Le côté un peu décalé et les dialogues m'ont plu, mais j'ai moins aimé le fait que l'auteur nous laisse imaginer la fin du livre. Le mystère est résolu et une partie de l'impact est aussi décrite, mais je suis restée sur ma faim.
